El Kontessa is the stage name of Cairo-based producer, DJ and multidisciplinary artist Fajr Soliman. She experiments with Pop and Mahraganat music elements. In her production and DJ set, she deconstructs familiar/nostalgic sounds, adds textures, and blends it with Cairo’s soundscapes.
Since El Kontessa’s musical debut in 2018, she has performed live shows in Egypt, Tunis, Switzerland, Lebanon, Germany and Jordan. She has also been part of essential lineups in various venues and festivals such as: Fête de la musique by the French institute, Fri-Son Club, Fribourg, Switzerland, and Stuttgart Festival, Germany.
El Kontessa is featured on prestigious media and streaming platforms worldwide, such as Nyege Nyege Festival, Boiler Room and Vice magazine, and radio stations such as NTS, Rinse FM, Movement Radio and Noods.
Her work as a visual artist is a nexus of digital painting, street art, and design and focuses on themes surrounding the female psyche and women in public spaces. She has exhibited in Cairo, Copenhagen, Napoli, Los Angeles, and more.
