Space is never neutral; it is shaped by who has access to it, who feels entitled to occupy it, whose presence is visible, and whose voices are heard. This applies to streets, cultural institutions, homes, public spaces, as well as the digital environments in which we communicate, create, and form communities.
As part of the Austrian Cultural Forum’s annual theme “SPACES,” and in cooperation with D-CAF, this event will explore how feminist artistic and cultural practices create, occupy, reclaim, and transform spaces across the physical and digital realms.
The event will bring together a panel of artists, researchers, and practitioners from Cairo’s diverse arts and cultural scene—representing a range of disciplines including music, literature, performance, visual arts, and digital practices—to explore the connections between online and offline spaces and how digital technologies shape the ways we inhabit, perceive, and engage with the world around us. They will also examine how feminist practices can challenge existing structures while reclaiming and creating new spaces for expression, participation, community, and connection, specifically within the context of Cairo.
