Fatma Qandil

Fatma Qandil was born in 1958. She is associate professor (emerita) in the Department of Arabic at Helwan University in Cairo and deputy editor-in-chief of the literary magazine Fusul. Her poetry collections and works of literary criticism have been translated into many languages worldwide. On December 11, she was awarded the 2022 Naguib Mahfouz Medal for Literature by the American University in Cairo (AUC) Press for her debut novel Empty Cages.
