Mona Zakaria

Dr. Mona Zakaria is an architect and historian who specialises in heritage and rehabilitation. She has worked with diverse communities, such as those in Historic Cairo—which include Qal’at al-Kabsh, Darb al-Labbana, and the Fustat Pottery Village—and in Nazlet El-Samman in Giza, the Aswan Market and Handicrafts Center, and the Al-Assal district in Shubra, Cairo. She is also an academic: a professor of Islamic architectural history at the School of Architecture and Urbanism in Versailles, France, and a researcher at the Centre for Economic Studies and Documentation (CEDEJ). She was nominated for the Aga Khan Award in 2003.
