The Tulun Mosque photography exhibition, by Egyptian-French photographer Ayman Khoury, features a unique visual and photographic depiction of the oldest mosque in Egypt still standing. Built in the 9th century CE on Mount Yashkur by architect Said ibn Katib al-Farghani, the mosque is steeped in age-old legends and tales.
The first edition of this exhibition, held in partnership with Beit Tulun at the site itself, takes us on a sensory journey, where images of the mosque’s imposing and dazzling architecture merge with the spiritual aspects of Sufi remembrance. Ayman Khoury meticulously examines the building’s simplicity and its intimate details, evoking the human and spiritual pulse of the place through photographs depicting the Sufi dhikr ritual.
