Henri Jules Julien was born in 1964. He was trained as a chemical engineer and has worked in theatre, radio creation for France Culture, as well as translation and production. He has long lived in the MENA region (Cairo and Casablanca). He has collaborated on European tours with artists from Egypt such as Ahmed El Attar, Hassan El Geretly, Morocco such as Youness Atbane, Khalid Benghrib, as well as Syria and Lebanon. He has directed poems from Charles Reznikoff’s Testimony with Sophie Agnel and Victor Ponomarev, and written and directed two bilingual French-Arabic shows: “De la justice des poissons” with Nanda Mohammad, David Chiesa, Christophe Cardoen, and “Mahmoud & Nini” with Virginie Gabriel and Mahmoud El Haddad. He is also the initiator of the SHAEIRAT project, which he now co-directs. He has worked on performances by Rasha Omran, Soukaina Habiballah, Carol Sansour and Fatma Qandil. Together with artist Youness Atbane, he initiated the ongoing multi-faceted reflection program “hORIEzoNTALISM”.
