You are invited to participate in a practice-sharing workshop with Imre Vass, a Hungarian dancer and choreographer, for the local adaptation of his site-specific contemporary dance performance Reading the Room.
The workshop will welcome selected participants into an empty room, which they will gradually fill with movement, memories, feelings, fears, resolutions, knowledge, experience, objects, light, and sound.
The performance will engage with the concept of “reading” on 3 levels: 1) The personal: how we position ourselves in relation to given conditions, 2) The spatial and temporal: how we connect with a physical space and its past, and 3) The socio-cultural: how a room, with its often claustrophobic nature, can be a microcosm of a wider local context and state of mind.
Participants will be encouraged to contribute to these readings through the workshop, which will act as a platform for the mutual exchange of knowledge and experiences, helping the performer to better understand the local social/cultural/political context and the local dance and art scene.
