“Architecture of the Soul” A Panel Disscusion

This event will focus on the impact the Mosque of Ahmad Ibn Tulun has had on the lives of those living in its vicinity and how its presence influences their daily lives, memories, and sense of place and belonging.
Dr. Mona Zakaria will open with the history of the mosque, including historical facts and stories about its architecture, its imposing size, and its prominent presence in the Old City.

Dr. May al-Ibrashy will then speak about her work with the Urban Thought Association and her experience working with the local community in Al-Khalifa district, exploring the relationship between architecture, heritage, and community.
The event will conclude with an open discussion with artist Ayman Khoury about his exhibition, which explores, through image and sound, what he calls “architecture of the soul,” as embodied by the architecture of the mosque. He will discuss his artistic vision and the ways in which the exhibition contemplates the connections between place, memory, spirituality, and the human experience, revealing the stories and emotions inherent in architectural spaces.
